Becoming Pegs

Last weekend, my niece and nephew were playing in a marquee (or whatever a tent without walls is called!) with their band.

I am deaf, but love watching them play.

It was a really windy day, lots of pegs being used to try and keep music on the music stands.

In the back left hand corner sat the drummer. Perhaps because he was nearest to the elements, his music blew around quite merrily. The pegs were helpless. It happened in the middle of a piece, yet he carried on playing.

I could leave it there, but that wouldn’t be telling the whole story.

He carried on playing because other people helped.

They picked up his music, put it on his stand, and became his pegs.

For the rest of the piece, they stood beside the stand, holding the music for him. So that he could carry on playing.

They didn’t try and play the drums for him, but they enabled him to do so.

Who are our pegs?

The people who hold the music so we can play?

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the people who enable me to keep going, supporting me in life,

encouraging me, and giving me hope.

Amen

What about God? The best Peg of all!

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for holding me and my life secure, even when all the pages are blowing in

the wind.

Amen

What about us? Who could we be pegs for?

Heavenly Father,

Please show us who we can support and enable in their life, and help us to do it.

Amen

I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
