Welcome to Open Ears

It is with great sadness that we announce the death, on July 8 2024, of our Treasurer, Julia Chapman.  Julia played a pivotal role in shaping Open Ears into the vibrant, modern and relevant community which we have today.  Her strategic ability, attention to detail and honest desire to serve the Lord through her role in Open Ears, coupled with her humble, gentle, caring spirit were hugely appreciated by all who worked alongside her.  Self effacing, Julia did not enjoy being in the limelight, yet her determination to create a prayer calendar for our members has left a lasting legacy.

We know that Julia is now at peace, at home with her Lord and Saviour, and in that we rejoice, although we will miss her sorely.

In God’s own good timimg, He led Julia to chose this verse, more than a year ago, for the day in which she passed into His presence:

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”  Revelation 21:4

Open Ears is a Christian charity (Registered Charity 1181896) whose aim is to provide accessible Christian fellowship for people of all denominations, and to support anyone affected by hearing loss.

Open Ears is for people with any degree of hearing loss -from mild to profound – their family, friends and churches. Members mainly (but not exclusively) communicate orally, assisted by hearing aids or cochlear implants and lip-reading.

Open Ears offers fellowship, Bible teaching, prayer support and pastoral care; Speech to Text is a vital part of enabling all participants to feel comfortable and on an equal footing at all our online and in person events, and BSL interpretation can also be provided at our in-person events.

Open Ears produces ‘Hearing Eye’, a quarterly magazine for members and can signpost to helpful information and other organisations.  Past copies of ‘Hearing Eye’ can be viewed by clicking on the ‘Magazine’ tab.

Open Ears Trustees and managing Team are all volunteers. The charity is funded entirely by voluntary donations and may, at the discretion of the Trustees, give a proportion of its donated income to specified Christian charities and other organisations involved in supporting people with hearing loss.

Encouraging those with hearing loss to reach their potential and grow in their Christian lives.
