Lamentations 3:22-25
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself,
“The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”
The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;
These verses were part of my reading this morning. They never cease to speak to me. This shouldn’t surprise me really, knowing that God’s word is powerful, active, and always working in our lives so we can work in the life of our world. Amazing!!
This morning, the part that hit me was
‘The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.’
Our waiting and seeking triggers the Lord’s goodness. Amazing. We think we have to do something powerful, substantial, spectacular to get the Lord’s attention and experience His good intervention.
Here’s the truth:
our waiting and seeking is powerful, substantial, and precious to the Lord.
He doesn’t hurry us through our seasons of waiting and seeking so He can be good to us. He is good in the midst of our waiting and seeking. Why? Because He is always present and His character is to be good. As He walks with us through our times of waiting and seeking He is good to us. What a beautiful, valuable gift. Nothing else in this world compares to that.
The Hebrew word for ‘wait’ is ‘qavah’. This literally means to ‘intertwine ourselves with’. As we wait, we are intertwining ourselves with God, who He is and what is important to Him. Someone said, it’s like running a three-legged race where we are tied to another person. To get to the end of the race, we need to keep in step with one another.
May we be so intertwined with God today that we sense His movements and pauses.
May we learn to keep pace with Him.
May we value our times of waiting and seeking, give thanks for them, and notice the
Lord’s goodness towards us.
May the fact that He is present and good fill us with hope and peace, no matter what is
going on.
May we gain a new appreciation for the times we wait and seek.
May we know they are not to frustrate us, but rather beautiful opportunities and
invitations to experience our Lord’s goodness and kindness.
If you find yourself in a season of waiting and seeking, I pray the Lord will open your eyes and heart to His goodness and kindness as you look for opportunities to intertwine yourself with who He is and what is important to Him.
