About 18 months ago I was fortunate enough to be offered a cochlear implant which has made a huge difference to my life; now I am able to hear so much better and my confidence in going out and socialising is continuing to improve.
In March last year the rules changed for who is eligible for NHS funded cochlear implants enabling more people to benefit from having one. People with hearing levels equal or poorer than 80 decibels rather than 90 decibels will now be considered.
It was World Hearing Day on 3 March. This Day aimed to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and to promote ear and hearing care across the world. If you feel you are having problems with your hearing or if you think you would benefit from having a cochlear implant, make an appointment to see your GP and arrange to have a hearing test; you will be surprised at how much your life could improve!
